EAGLE PASS, Texas –

Juan A. Garcia, 81, Eagle Pass, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Fort Duncan Hospital in Eagle Pass.
He was born July 27, 1936, in Zaragoza, Coahuila Mexico, the son of Ignacia and Francisco Almanza Garcia. He married Carmel “Carmen” Lopez on June 19, 1965, in Rock Island, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2002.
Juan is survived by his son, John Henry (Julie) Garcia of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Jeremy (fiance Samantha Valadez) Garcia, Alexis Garcia and Sienna Garcia, all of Houston, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Garcia; one brother, Ignacia (Antonia) Garcia of Eagle Pass; a sister-in-law, Francisco Ortiz de Garcia of Eagle Pass; three sisters, Dora Soliz of Fort Worth, Texas, Berta (Lázaro Valdez) Garcia de Valdez of Zaragoza, Coahuila Mexico, and Rita Garcia de Luna of Eagle Pass. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Rolando Garcia; and two brothers-in-law, Isidro Soliz and Daniel de Luna.
Juan worked in railroad maintenance for BNSF for over 25 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood Maintenances of Way workers. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for noon Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Rev. Deus-Dedit B. Byabato will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with Prayers at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
